The Magic of miraDry With Chelsey Plius

Sweating.
The sweating is never-ending. By the middle of the day you feel disgusting, and honestly, you probably smell disgusting, too.
This is normal! It’s perfectly normal to sweat.
However, some people sweat more than they would like, and some even suffer from hyperhidrosis – abnormally excessive sweating not caused by external temperature or physical exertion.

Meet Chelsey Plius
AesthetiCare client Chelsey Plius just wants to feel comfortable in her skin, but excessive perspiration makes that difficult. She has found that with age and having kids, she’s naturally sweatier than she once was.
Chelsey tried avoiding certain chemicals in deodorant, changing to natural deodorants and everything else under the sun. Finally, she came to AesthetiCare to see what we could do about diminishing that sticky feeling that – let’s face it – no one enjoys.
After a thorough discussion of her skin care goals, Chelsey’s nurse, Blake Bryant, recommended the miraDry treatment.
Introducing the Miracle Worker Known As miraDry
In a nutshell, miraDry is your go-to, non-surgical solution for quick relief from sweaty underarms! A revolutionary, FDA-approved treatment, miraDry permanently reduces underarm odor and sweat, and it can even reduce underarm hair!
This miracle procedure treats hyperhidrosis, excessive underarm sweating and underarm odor in as little as 60 to 90 minutes. A little bruising and sensitivity are to be expected in recovery, but most side effects diminish in seven to 10 days.

The miraDry Process
Before the Procedure
Prior to walking into the AesthetiCare office for treatment, Chelsey had a brief phone consultation with her nurse, Blake, to go over her goals, the details of miraDry and what to expect during her treatment. He stressed the importance of prepping properly so the miraDry treatment could begin as soon as possible after her arrival at the office.
Preparing the Skin
Prior to starting treatment, the area is measured, outlined, disinfected and numbed to ensure Chelsey doesn’t experience any discomfort. Following that, Blake applies a layer of lubricant to ensure a proper seal between Chelsey’s skin and the miraDry device.
Chelsey says that at first the prep procedure feels a bit weird, but not bad at all. Blake warns her that she probably can’t tell where her armpits are, but he assures her that they’re still attached and that she will remain comfortable during the miraDry treatment, which is applied to one arm at a time.
Transferring Information to the Device
Once Chelsey is sufficiently numb, Blake switches on the miraDry machine so that it can learn more about its willing participant.
Blake tells the machine a little bit about Chelsey: that her goal is to treat excessive sweating, destroy the odor caused by sweat and remove some of the underarm hair (an added perk).
He then selects certain options on the screen, almost as if he’s checking items off a list.
The Procedure
This is where it gets exciting. The miraDry bioTip aligns with a template to treat the targeted area. At times, the device emits a kind of kissing sound, but that’s just the bioTip attempting to suction a dry part of the area – no cause for concern.
Once the device connects with the skin, a pattern of mild warmth and cooling occurs as the treatment proceeds. Chelsey smiles the whole time, acting as if she’s got full feeling in her underarms (though she doesn’t!).
The warm and cool sensations Chelsey feels are from the thermal energy emitted by the sophisticated miraDry device to create heat in the area where hair glands, sweat and odor live – and annihilate them. All the components in the miraDry process are perfectly safe and highly effective.
Following the miraDry treatment, Chelsey and Blake discuss aspects of aftercare and what Chelsey can expect over the next few days.
With ice already tucked under her arms, Chelsey is instructed to ice her underarms as often as she can. She’s free to resume normal activity, but the consistent presence of ice under her arms will go a long way to ensure her comfort and reduce swelling.
Blake assures her that the swelling will diminish after a few days, and any discoloration should dissipate the first day after the miraDry treatment.
There’s really no pain with miraDry, thanks to the numbing! Chelsey’s aftercare includes gently cleaning her underarms in the shower, but Blake tells her to refrain from any rigorous activity that induces sweating. Her sweat glands have just endured a lot of damage, and they need to be allowed to peacefully disappear.
It’s important to note that killing sweat glands via miraDry is perfectly safe and okay for your body. After all, miraDry kills only a small percentage of your sweat and odor glands.
If Chelsey has any questions or experiences something that was not in the aftercare instructions, she can call Blake. However, if all goes well, Chelsey should be feeling good in a week!
miraDry – What a Piece of Cake!
There you have it! The miraDry treatment is virtually pain-free, and for some, it’s a one-stop shop to control excessive perspiration. It is unclear at this time whether Chelsey will need another treatment, but it can take up to two treatments to achieve the desired, long-lasting results, especially for those with true hyperhidrosis.
Chelsey took the miraDry treatment like a pro and left with a smile on her face! Now she’s free to enjoy summer without that sticky feeling.
