Most people researching plastic surgery arrive with one question: do I actually need surgery for this, or would a nonsurgical treatment get me there? The answer you get often depends on where you ask, because surgical practices tend to lead with a procedure and medspas with a device or syringe.

AesthetiCare Medspa + Wellness brings both aesthetics and surgical expertise together under one trusted team. Since 2001, our experienced nurse injectors and aestheticians have cared for clients across four Kansas City-area locations, offering more than 70 FDA-approved treatment options. For those considering a surgical solution, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Richard Korentager provides expert evaluation and guidance.

The advantage is a truly personalized approach. Your consultation may lead to a completely non-surgical treatment plan or help determine that surgery is the best path to achieve your goals. Either way, the recommendation is based on what’s right for you, not on a single treatment or service.

Do I Need Surgery?

It depends on what’s causing the change you see. Injectables, energy devices and fat-reduction treatments can improve skin quality, mild laxity, lost volume and small pockets of fat. Surgery usually takes over when the change is structural, such as skin that needs removing or muscle that has separated, or when you want a different size or shape.

In keeping with our service-through-education approach, your consultation starts with an assessment of skin elasticity, where the laxity or fat sits and what you’d like to change. From there, you get an honest recommendation for the least invasive option that can realistically get you there. You can start with a virtual consultation.

Eyes and Brow

Heavy upper lids and a low brow often look like the same problem. When the brow has dropped only slightly, Botox placed at the outer brow can lift its tail, and Sofwave can tighten mild laxity across the upper face. Upneeq, an FDA-approved eye drop for drooping eyelids (ptosis), is a nonsurgical eye care product we offer that can provide a modest lift without any downtime.

Surgery makes more sense when excess lid skin rests on the lashes or narrows your field of vision, or when lower-lid bags come from fat pads pushing forward, which rest and eye creams can’t fully address. Blepharoplasty takes away that excess skin and removes or repositions the fat. A direct brow lift raises a brow that sits low enough to weigh down the upper lid.

Face and Neck

Early jowling and crepey skin along the jawline often respond to Sofwave, Genius RF microneedling or InstaLift Threads. Dermal fillers and Sculptra replace lost volume, and Kybella dissolves fat under the chin.

When jowls hang below the jawline or the neck shows vertical bands and loose skin folds, those treatments reach their limit. A facelift repositions the deeper tissues of the mid and lower face, and a neck lift tightens the platysma muscle and removes excess neck skin. The two procedures are often performed together.

Nano-fat grafting sits between the two approaches. A small amount of your own fat is harvested, refined and injected to improve texture and volume in the face, hands, neck or chest, with far less downtime than a lift.

Breast

Changing breast size or lifting breasts that have descended requires surgery. Breast enhancement at AesthetiCare covers augmentation with implants, a breast lift or a combination of both.

Clients considering augmentation can also ask about Motiva breast implants, a line of FDA-approved silicone implants offered in Round and Ergonomix styles, including the tissue-sparing Motiva Preservé approach for subtle volume. At your consultation, Dr. Korentager evaluates your anatomy and skin quality to recommend an implant style, size or lift technique.

Body

CoolSculpting Elite reduces fat bulges without surgery, Emsculpt Neo builds and tones abdominal muscle, and Sofwave can tighten mildly loose skin. For many people near their goal weight, that combination is enough.

A tummy tuck becomes the answer when pregnancy or weight loss has left loose, overhanging skin or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), because only surgery can remove skin or repair that separation. Small-area liposuction is often the next step for stubborn fat under the chin or along the flanks, bra line, thighs or upper arms that hasn’t responded to nonsurgical fat reduction.

Alloclae adds natural-looking volume to areas like the hips, buttocks or contours left uneven by past liposuction procedures. It uses ready-to-use fat (adipose) tissue from screened donors, so there’s no need for harvesting fat directly from the patient. The treatment takes about an hour in-office, results show right away, and most people are back to normal activity within a day or two.

Ear

Protruding or asymmetrical ears have no nonsurgical correction. Ear tacking reshapes and secures the ear cartilage through a small incision hidden in the crease behind the ear. The procedure typically takes one to two hours, and most clients return to normal activities within a week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I combine surgery with medspa treatments?

Yes, and many clients do. Neurotoxins can soften expression lines that a facelift doesn’t address, and resurfacing treatments like Halo laser or ProFractional laser improve texture and tone once you’ve healed.

Can nonsurgical treatments delay the need for surgery?

They can, particularly for mild laxity and early volume loss. Consistent treatment with Sofwave or Sculptra can help keep those changes in check longer. Skin that has already stretched still needs surgical removal, though, so once lifting becomes the only real fix, your consultation will tell you that directly.

What happens at a plastic surgery consultation?

After reviewing your goals and medical history and examining the area in question, we walk through every option that fits, surgical or not, so you understand why we recommend what we do. If surgery is the right call, you’ll go over what the procedure involves and what it costs before making any decision.
