Treat Wrinkles & Crepey Skin

Medi Threads are small hair-like threads made of a bioabsorbable synthetic material.

They are used to improve the integrity of skin, tone the tissue, address wrinkles, and increase hydration of the skin. Medi Threads are comprised of Polydioxanone (PDO). Polydioxanone is a well-used material for suture in most pediatric cardiac surgery and is a completely safe medical device as well as being completely absorbable and hypoallergenic. PDO contains no heavy metals and has no significant side effects. PDO threads range in size, strength and purpose. Medi Threads stimulate the production of new collagen protein which results in increased elasticity and firmness of the skin.

The Procedure Details

What it Treats

The placement of Medi Threads can take as little as five minutes and as long as an hour, depending on how many threads are placed and in how many locations on the body. In addition, we often use threading with other treatments such as dermal fillers and injections of neurotoxins, which will also determine the length of the appointment. The provider will assess the need of the client and direct the appointment time.

  • Wrinkles
  • Crepey Skin

Procedure Time

5 minutes – 1 hour

Redness or light swelling for about 15 minutes. Potential bruising, which can last for up to 1 week.

Recovery Time & Side Effects

The recovery for “threading” is virtually immediate. The client will leave our clinic and can immediately resume most activities. As with any injection in the skin, there is a potential for bruising at the site. It would be advisable for the client to abstain from exercise for several hours and to adhere to keeping treated area clean like they would after any injection treatment. After two weeks, the body starts synthesis of natural protein of the body (elastin and collagen). Production of natural proteins continues up to 1 month until the PDO thread absorption is complete.

The Medi Thread Treatment Process.

How does Medi Threads Work?

Medi Threads are thin, bioabsorbable threads made of polydioxanone (PDO), a safe and widely used material in medical sutures. When inserted into the skin, these threads stimulate the body’s natural healing response, which triggers the production of new collagen and elastin– essential proteins that provide structure, firmness and elasticity to the skin.

As we age, our body’s production of these proteins decreases, leading to wrinkles, sagging and loss of volume. By stimulating collagen and elastin production, Medi Threads help to counteract these signs of aging and promote a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.

The PDO threads gradually dissolve over time, typically within 6 to 8 months. During this process, they continue stimulating collagen production, improving skin texture, firmness and overall appearance. This gradual dissolution also ensures a natural-looking result without requiring synthetic materials to remain in the skin indefinitely.

Follow-up Appointments

Your provider may recommend follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and ensure optimal results. These appointments also allow you to discuss any concerns or questions about your treatment.

6

Maintain Results

One of the most appealing aspects of Medi Thread treatments is their long-lasting results. While the PDO threads themselves dissolve within 6 to 8 months, the effects of the treatment can last much longer.

Combining Medi Threads with Other Treatments

While Medi Threads can provide impressive results on their own, combining them with other aesthetic treatments can offer a more comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation.

We often recommend pairing Medi Threads with treatments such as:

  • Dermal Fillers: These can help restore volume and smooth out deeper wrinkles, while Medi Threads address skin laxity and texture. Together, these treatments can provide a more complete rejuvenation of the face.
  • Neurotoxin Injections: These can help to relax dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements, while Medi Threads target static wrinkles and skin laxity. The combination of treatments can lead to a more youthful, refreshed appearance.
  • Laser Resurfacing or Skin Tightening Treatments: Combining Medi Threads with treatments like Halo laser resurfacing or Ultherapy can further enhance skin texture, tone and tightness for optimal results.
