Medi Threads are comprised of Polydioxanone (PDO). Polydioxanone is a well-used material for suture in most pediatric cardiac surgery and is a completely safe medical device as well as being completely absorbable and hypoallergenic. PDO contains no heavy metals and has no significant side effects.
PDO threads range in size, strength and purpose. Medi Threads stimulate the production of new collagen protein which results in increased elasticity and firmness of the skin.
5 minutes -1 hour
The placement of Medi Threads can take as little as five minutes and as long as an hour, depending on how many threads are placed and in how many locations on the body. In addition, we often use threading with other treatments such as dermal fillers and injections of neurotoxins, which will also determine the length of the appointment. The provider will assess the need of the client and direct the appointment time.
Improvement in the integrity of skin, toning of the tissue, wrinkle improvement, and increased hydration of the skin.
Medi Threads are comprised of Polydioxanone — a colorless, crystalline, biodegradable synthetic polymer. PDO threads increase the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid and improves local microcirculation. Bio-stimulation is a fresh approach in aesthetics. Insertion of the powerful synthetic fiber which is absorbed in the tissue, leaving the skin firmer, more elastic, and better hydrated. After two weeks, the body starts synthesis of natural proteins (elastin and collagen). Production of natural proteins continues up to 1 month until the PDO thread absorption is complete.
01
Your provider will review your medical history with you and discuss any area(s) of concern to ensure Medi Threads is right for you.
02
Your provider will take photos of the area(s) receiving treatment and use a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort.
03
Your provider will then prep and cleanse the treated area(s) as per standard of care and select the appropriate size(s) of threads selected based on client needs and area of body. Next, small removable markings are made on the skin to indicate where threads will be placed, how many threads, and what sizes.
04
After your injector marks the treatment areas, they will insert the threads below the skin. A very small needle is used, which creates only minor discomfort.
05
Medi Threads can be completed in as quickly as a few minutes minutes. We advise clients not to lie down or exercise for 4 hours after treatment.
You will feel a little pinch from the tiny needle but it is comparable to a neurotoxin injection. The majority of our clients feel only a slight sting that is very tolerable.

The recovery for "threading" is virtually immediate. The client will leave our Leawood or Liberty clinic and can immediately resume most activities. As with any injection in the skin there is a potential for bruising at the site. It would be advisable for the client to abstain from exercise for several hours and to adhere to keeping treated area clean like they would after any injection treatment. After two weeks the body starts synthesis of natural protein of the body (elastin and collagen). Production of natural proteins continues up to 1 month until the PDO thread absorption is complete.
Depending on how many threads used you can expect to see a difference in two weeks. Recommended protocol is to have Medi Threads placed three times, one month apart and then follow up in 6 months and every 6 months for maintenance.
Depending on how many threads used, the size of the threads, and how many treatments client has had, you can expect the results to last up to a year.
