What is Fat?
Fat, or adipose tissue, is a type of connective tissue in the body that primarily functions as an energy storage system. It comprises specialized cells called adipocytes, which store triglycerides (lipids) and release them when the body needs energy.
Subcutaneous fat sits just below the skin and accounts for most body fat. It serves as insulation, cushioning and an energy reserve. Subcutaneous fat is the type targeted by nonsurgical fat reduction treatments.
