We are one of the only medspas in the country to utilize a professional advisory board and we are very excited about this value-added feature to our clinic. Our goal is to expand on the thorough nature in which we run our business.

Meet the Board

Our Advisory Board features a nationally known, board-certified Dermatologist, a world renowned, board-certified Plastic Surgeon, and a board-certified OBGYN/Anti-aging and Wellness physician. Working with these three amazing physicians enables us to collaborate on treatment options for unique skin issues, explore new and exciting treatments, as well as consult with them in the rare case of any complications that our valued clients may experience.

Dr. Burns, Dr. Robb and Dr. Carter each have extensive experience in non-surgical aesthetics. It is part of our never-ending quest to ensure that AesthetiCare can provide our clients with the best care possible in the aesthetic industry. In addition to our physicians on the board, Matt and Kathy Taranto are invaluable resources as well with their 45+ years experience in the aesthetics industry.

Dr. Jay Burns

Dr. A. Jay Burns is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Dallas, TX. He is a graduate of Baylor University and The University of Texas. He founded what is now the largest plastic surgery practice in the country and owns Epi Centre Med Spa.

Dr. Burns is world renowned for his work with lasers, with an emphasis in resurfacing and treating birthmarks and vascular anomalies. His work has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey “Medical Miracles” show. Dr. Burns is a past President of the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and a keynote speaker for many national associations. He and his wife Ginny, of 39 years, are deeply committed to their faith and family. They founded the Prodigal Ministry in Dallas to serve families struggling with addiction and rebellion.

Dr. Burns is, amongst his peers, one of the most respected plastic surgeons in the country and a good friend of Mint Aesthetics. His resurfacing work is truly amazing and we feel honored to have him work with us.

Dr. Christopher Robb

Chris W. Robb, MD PhD, FAAD is a co-founder of Skin and Allergy Center and SAC Cosmetic, with three locations in central Tennessee.

He did his undergraduate work at Baylor University and received a Ph.D. from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Microbiology and Immunology where he focused his work on molecular biology and infectious diseases.

Dr. Robb earned his MD from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in 2003 and finished the Internal Medicine portion of his training at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.

Dr. Robb completed a Dermatology Residency at Vanderbilt University, where he served as chief resident his final year.

In addition to a his private practice, Dr. Robb is also a Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Lincoln Memorial University DCOM.

Dr. Robb is a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon who performs medical and surgical dermatology, MOHs surgery and cosmetic dermatology . He also participates in research efforts focusing on the physiologic effects of lasers in the skin.

Dr. Robb has a national and international reputation as a leader in the field of lasers and cosmetics, and teaches cosmetic lasers to doctors in Tennessee and nearly every state in the United States but also areas as distant as France, The Netherlands, Dubai, Russia, Australia, Canada and Thailand.

Dr. Amy Carter

Amy Carter, DO, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in private practice. Dr. Carter received her undergraduate degree in biology from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa and was awarded her medical degree from Des Moines University in 2003. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology from the University of Missouri Kansas City in 2007. Dr. Carter is a partner in the practice Ferns, Matile, Perryman and Moore and founder of Kansas City Wellness Center and Medical Spa.

Dr. Carter opened Kansas City Wellness Center and Medical Spa in 2015 to serve as a comprehensive healthy aging and aesthetic center. Kansas City Wellness Center focuses on education and enhancing each client’s natural beauty in a relaxed, comfortable and private setting. Dr. Carter has had extensive training in aesthetic injectables, lasers, radio frequency and more!

Dr. Carter is a strong believer that a healthy diet and exercise are fundamental for overall wellness of mind and body. Kansas City Wellness Center offers weight loss options, body contouring technology, and noninvasive procedures that can be done to turn back time to help clients feel their absolute best.

Matt Taranto

Matt entered the field of Aesthetics in 1996, opening Aesthetic Consulting Group as an independent rep group for non-surgical aesthetic equipment. He developed a territory in the Midwest that was consistently in the top 3 regions in the country in sales during this time. Matt has been a laser trainer for 21 years. In 2001 he opened AesthetiCare MedSpa in Kansas City. AesthetiCare is now one of the most successful stand-alone MedSpas in the country with over $6 Million a year in revenues in 2018. AesthetiCare has experienced double-digit growth 18 consecutive years.

In 2005, Matt transformed Aesthetic Consulting Group to Mint Aesthetics, partnering with his wife, Kathy Taranto. Kathy has 20 years of experience in aesthetics. Mint has now worked with well over 1200 clinics in North America. Mint focuses on beginning to advanced training for virtually all med spa treatments including lasers and injectables. Matt spends the majority of his time consulting clinics in marketing, personnel, performing consultations, retail product sales, equipment evaluation and price negotiation, etc. Matt and Kathy also speak at 40+ aesthetic meetings each year throughout the country and are considered one of the country’s top authorities in the business of non-surgical aesthetics.

Kathy Taranto

Kathy’s love for skin began in 2000 when she started working with a French cosmeceutical company. Like wine and cheese, it was an instant fit. For the next 7 years she worked with Aesthetic Centers in the Southwest developing treatment menus, training staff and implementing marketing programs.

In 2007, Kathy was certified in laser aesthetics and quickly became a laser trainer at multiple laser institutes in Arizona. In 2011 she developed laser curriculum and opened the first ARRA laser certification course in Arizona. MINT Aesthetics models Arizona’s strict guidelines for laser safety and certification. Kathy has worked with several technologies from companies including; Deka, Alma, Palomar, BTL, Lutronics, Coolsculpting and Sciton. She has had the opportunity to speak at laser conferences and regularly speaks for AMSPA.

Over the last 15 years, Kathy has been fortunate enough to work in almost every position within the industry including; retail sales, front desk, laser technician, laser trainer, sales rep, event coordinator, sales consultant and manager. She has been awarded both Rep of the year and Presidents Club. Kathy loves to run, travel (especially back to Arizona), and spend time with her favorites (Matt, Emmy and Jax)!

Joel L. Cohen, MD

Joel L. Cohen, MD (FAAD, FACMS) is an internationally recognized expert on aesthetics and skin cancer. He is the Director of AboutSkin Dermatology and DermSurgery, and AboutSkin Research in metropolitan-Denver, Colorado. He was named a Top Dermatologist by US News and World Report, Castle Connelly Top Doctor (2013-2024), and voted by his peers as one of Denver’s Top Doctors in 5280 magazine 10-times. He is a Board-Certified Dermatologist, and Fellowship-trained in Mohs Surgery, Lasers and Cosmetic Dermatology.

Dr. Cohen has published over 306 medical articles and book chapters, and has has co-authored 3 academic textbooks. He lectures every month at national meetings as well as at many international congresses, and has participated in over 100 clinical trials including on key aesthetic lasers and devices as well as injectables. He is on the teaching faculty of the University of California Irvine as an Associate Professor of Dermatology. He also serves as one of the Medical Directors for Cosmetic Physician Partners (CPP).

Dr. Cohen has received many prestigious awards including the Melanoma Research Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award, the ASDS Public Service Award, the ASDS Patient Safety Hero Award, the ASDS Excellence in Education Award, the ASCDAS Distinguished Service Award, and the ASDS Traveling Mentorship & Teaching Award.

He has been quoted in many newspapers & magazines including: Vogue, TIME, Glamour, Elle, Allure, The New York Times (x4), Reader’s Digest, Shape, USA Today, US News & World Report, InStyle, BuzzFeed, MSN.com, ABC.com, NewBeauty, Condé Nast, Men’s Health, Huffington Post, International Business Times, Consumer Reports (x8), SELF, Women’s Health and MORE Magazine. He serves on the NewBeauty Magazine medical and brian trust board, and is an editor for more than 10 academic journals.

He regularly appears on Denver TV stations (with over 75 appearances discussing aesthetic issues, dermatology, and skin cancer), and has been a guest on many segments of SiriusXM Doctor Radio. He was also featured on the Emmy Award winning show “The Doctors.”
