The difference between BOTOX & Juvederm fillers
Many of our clients are under the impression that the words “Botox” and “filler” are interchangeable, but that’s far from true.
Basically, Botox and fillers are two totally different treatments, with different recovery times and outcomes.
Let’s talk through each one to help you better see the difference between Botox and Juvederm fillers.
What is Botox?
Botox is a specially formulated product that targets the wrinkle-causing muscles underneath the skin. These muscles create wrinkles by repeating similar movements (such as laughing or frowning) over time.
When Botox is injected, it acts to relax these muscles in order to soften current lines & folds and prevent the formation of wrinkles in the first place. Therefore, the appearance of dynamic wrinkles begin to fade.
What are Juvederm fillers?
Fillers on the other hand, such as the Juvederm family, are composed of hyaluronic acid.
We use fillers to improve the appearance of sunken cheeks, wrinkles around the nose and mouth (like laugh lines, “elevens”, lips, and frown lines). Additionally, we can use fillers to give beautiful volume to the lips and contour cheeks.
Fillers are injected just under the skin and meant to replenish the skin’s foundation by creating the appearance of volume and smoothness.
It works so well because it actually prompts natural processes in the skin to plump in the area of injection, eliminating wrinkles, lines, and scars.
To summarize…
Botox = reduces wrinkles by relaxing underlying muscles
Filler = reduces wrinkles by adding volume
Let’s go over a few more common questions we get regarding Juvederm in Kansas City.

So how long do fillers last?
Of course, how long fillers last depends on the individual person, their medical history, skin type, age, the type of filler used, and a few other contributing factors. For example, if you have a fast metabolism, you may notice that you require more frequent injections than a friend with a slower metabolism.
In our experience, Juvederm fillers in Kansas City tend to last between 6 to 18 months. When you begin to notice a reduction in the effects of your fillers, we recommend you schedule another injection appointment at our office.
Do fillers hurt?
If you’re not a fan of needles, Juvederm fillers may be slightly uncomfortable for you. The good news is that we numb our clients before filler injections in Kansas City. In addition, Juvederm has its own added numbing agents, too!
Thanks to this, many of our patients tell us they experience very little pain or discomfort when receiving fillers at AesthetiCare. Our aestheticians are highly trained in the latest methods for administering Juvederm fillers in a way that’s easy and effective.
Afterwards, you may feel some swelling or bruising at the injection site(s); this is a typical reaction to receiving fillers and will go away after an hour or two.
What are the side effects of Juvederm fillers in Kansas City?
Because filler injections are minimally invasive, side effects aren’t very common. A few side effects of fillers we’ve seen in the past include reactions to the needle/injection process in general, including redness, itching, pimples, and swelling.
Your AesthetiCare expert will thoroughly cover all of this information with you before you receive your injection.
What do Juvederm fillers feel like?
When you come to our office for your Juvederm injections, we will begin by discussing your goals and facial anatomy to determine the best type of filler for you. We will also discuss costs, risks, and address any of your other questions or concerns.
We will make sure you have not taken any blood-thinning medications or supplements in the last 24 hours. Then, we will prepare the Juvederm vials and slowly and precisely inject the fillers into the predetermined site(s), gently massaging the area with our fingers in order to evenly distribute it.
Is there anyone who should avoid Juvederm in Kansas City?
The best candidates for Juvederm are healthy adults looking to reduce the signs of aging or replace volume in their face.
However, if you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have an active infection or you are allergic to any of the materials in the injection, we recommend you avoid fillers.
What alternatives to Juvederm does AesthetiCare offer?
In addition to offering fillers from the Juvederm family, AesthetiCare also offers Radiesse®, Belotero®, and Restylane®, and Sculptra®.
Restylane and Belotero are hyaluronic acid fillers that are very similar to Juvederm. Radiesse and Sculptra, on the other hand, not only work to fill in areas beneath the skin, but also stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. This can leave long-lasting results even after the filler itself has been reabsorbed.
Hyaluronic acid fillers are considered best for the lips, but there may be subtle differences based on your skin type and goals that may cause us to recommend one filler over another. Your AesthetiCare filler specialist will be able to determine exactly which type of filler is best for you in your initial consultation.
