The Ulthera system uses a hand piece that comes in contact with the skin and delivers the ultrasound energy over a special conducting gel. A topical anesthetic and over-the-counter pain medication (such as Advil) is used for client comfort.

There is no recovery time or downtime, but there may be some soreness in the treated area for up to a week after the treatment.
Most people see improvement quickly, and results continue to improve for 6 to 9 months afterwards. We usually see the best results 6 months post-treatment.
How long Ultherapy lasts depends on a number of factors. On average, the results of Ultherapy can last 1 to 2 years. The actual results will vary according to the condition of your skin and your age.
There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so following the treatment. You may have tenderness in the treated area for up to 1 to 2 weeks post treatment. There can also be slight swelling or bruising, though this is rare.
A recent software upgrade called Ultherapy Amplify now affords a more comfortable procedure. While comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, most patients now report that the procedure is quite tolerable. If and when any discomfort does occur, it happens while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This sensation is temporary and is a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Your provider will make the experience as pleasant as possible, such as premedication and a topical numbing agent.
